So the other night we had a small kitchen fire ... but everything is ok and there was no damage done. There was lot of panic and screaming on my part! Luckily, Rudy took control of the situation. I was making tacos for dinner and decided to put the taco shells in the toaster oven instead of heating up the regular oven. Well the tray was dirty and I didn't want to take the time to wash they tray so I decided to put the shells directly on the rack .... BIG MISTAKE!!! I left the shells in too long and they were burning to I was trying to pull them out real quick (didn't even think to turn the toaster over off first) and one of the shells fell through and immediately caught on fire .... I started screaming like crazy! Rudy came in and remained calm and after a few seconds realized he should turn the thing off. I started to reach for the fire extinguisher but knew what a mess that would make so then I decided I would throw water in there - Rudy quickly reminded me what a bad idea it would be to throw water into an electrical appliance that was still plugged in and hot. So of course he stuck a METAL s'mores stick in and finally was able to fish the fire ball of a taco shell out, without electrocuting himself. It broke into a few pieces of fire, but once it was out of the toaster oven I was ready with a cup of water and we were able to put it out. I now understand even more how dangerous toaster ovens are AND how important it is to use the tray. We still enjoyed our tacos for dinner.

The most ironic thing happened the other day. So my tags on my car expired March 31 and I am still waiting for my new ones to come in the mail. I had my emissions slip in the car just in case I got pulled over so I could show proof that I had taken care of the registration. Well, as I was driving home from work Tuesday, I realized Rudy had taken all the papers out of my front seat when he vacuumed out my car for me (how sweet is that?). The emissions sheet was mixed in a pile of some grocery ads and other things and I was worried that he had thrown them away, so immediately I called him to ask what he did with them. They were in the garage. Phew! As soon as I hung up the phone, I noticed a cop in the lane next me, a few cars back. I check my speed, make sure I am not too close to the car in front of me, etc. Ok I am good. The cop gets up to where he is just behind me, still in the other lane and I can see that he is looking at my license plate .... oh no. Sure enough, he gets behind me and turns on his lights to pull me over. I immediately pull off and when he comes to my window and asks how I am doing ( a very friendly cop I have to say), I say "I am fine, is this about my tags?" And he says yes. So I explain that I have taken care of it, just haven't received my new sticker yet. He asks for my license and insurance .... of course my glove box is soooo full of papers. I can find every old insurance card. He runs my license while I continue to look - finally I find my current insurance card and he simply tells me to make sure I get it taken care of and to have a nice day. Thank you! I almost didn't believe there were nice cops out there ..... I always get pulled over by the complete jerks. It was so ironic that I had just called Rudy to find out where that emissions paper was!
That same night, Rudy was getting off work late while I am expecting him to be on his way home he calls me and says he just got a ticket. I totally think he is trying to fool me and don't believe him. When I ask what it was for he says, "The move over law." Now I know he isn't serious! But he stays serious and assures me this is real. The move over law? Has anyone ever heard of this? Apparently, in Arizona if you are driving and you see a cop on the side of the road, you have to get in the other lane. Even if the cop is just sitting there in his car with no one pulled over. This was the case with Rudy. He was in the right lane on the freeway, and there was a cop sitting on the shoulder of the road. Right after Rudy passed him he got behind him and pulled him over. He was just sitting there trying to trap someone!! Rudy said the whole time he was pulled over people were passing in the close lane so obviously no one knows about this law! It's so ridiculous! We have asked a bunch of people and no one has ever heard of it. I think it is just completely stupid that he got a ticket for it. Not even a warning? We can't decide of he should fight it or if he should just go to traffic school. Anyway, it's pretty crazy that we both got pulled over the same day. At least we didn't end up with 2 tickets.
Well that is how our week went. I tried out a new Chicken Tortilla Soup recipe tonight and it was DELICIOUS! A definite keeper. I normally have Saturdays off but I am working tomorrow for the guy that is covering for me on Sunday. A good trade. I am so happy I was able to get Easter off for another year.
I am going to eat a little bit of the remaining ice cream cake (soooo sad it's almost gone ... good thing my birthday is coming up) and then I am going to hit the hay. I hope works goes fast and smooth tomorrow.
