Hello! So I tried to start a blog once before, but never told anyone and with all the wedding planning I was doing in the past year I never really had time to keep up with it anyway. Now that the wedding is over and we have settled into married life, I am going to try again. I thoroughly enjoy reading other people's blogs and I also think it's a great way to jot down memories and to share your life with people who live far away.
So, after 4 1/2 years of dating, Rudy and I finally got married on April 5th. It was the best day of my life. After all the hard work of planning the wedding, everything came together and turned out just the way I wanted it to! What a relief! We had so much fun and were sad the night had to come to an end, but then we got to go to Costa Rica and start our life toget
her. Also, just a couple of days before the wedding, we found out that our offer on a house had been accepted! We couldn't believe everything was happening at once and we have been so thankful that God has blessed our life so much! We had an amazing honeymoon in Costa Rica & Panama - which I plan to share stories and pictures from, little by little.
This is the first hotel we stayed at - awesome view of the Arenal volcano! After an 8 hour drive to the airport, 2 hours of waiting to get on the plane, a 5 hour overnight flight, another 5 hours of driving from the airport - we finally arrived at our 1st destination, immediately got into our suits and headed to the pool!

One of the highlights of our trip was ziplining through and over the jungle! What a blast we had! I think it is the closest to flying that you can get. I can't even put into words how amazing it feels gliding over the trees and just looking over the beauty of the jungle and the beauty that God has created in everything. I could have done that everyday I think. We were too scared to take our camera with us - afraid we would drop it - as soon as we got up there, we realized it would have been fine. Luckily, they take a professional photographer along and then you can buy the cd of photos. We still regret not taking our own camera, but are glad to have a few pictures from this experience. I recommend everyone zipline sometime in their life. Amazing.
There aren't any pictures where you can tell how high we actually are. The longest zipline (in all of Costa Rica) is a half mile long and it was amazing! You can't see the end of it before you take off, but it takes you over this huge, beautiful waterfall (La Fortuna Waterfall) where a bunch of people are swimming and then you go through some trees, but since your weight determines the amount of speed you build up, I did not go fast enough to make it all the way to the end ... so there I was dangling over the jungle and had to wait for one the guys to come out and rescue me.
After the ziplines are done, they take you to visit an indigenous village that was pretty cool. From there you horse-back ride back down the mountain to the starting point. This was Rudy's first time ever on a horse! I was so excited for him to experience it - until we saw the horses. They were terribly thin, every bone sticking out, and were tied to posts where they had no access to any food or water. If there was any other way to get down that mountain, we would not have gotten on those horses. But we had no choice. Their knees were buckling the whole way and you could tell these poor horses had no strength or energy. We felt so horrible! I promised Rudy that horseback riding doesn't usually make you feel guilty and now I am going to have to take him again. This picture doesn't even show how pitiful the horses looked. Some had blood running down their knees. SOOOOO sad.
At the end of our first full adventurous day in Costa Rica, we returned to our hotel room to find this fancy towel art on our bed! Much fancier than the towel art when we arrived at the hotel. We figured this was the honeymoon special. I didn't want to move it! That's all from The Desjardin Honeymoon Memories, for now. Coming soon .... our travels to Tortuguero for the true jungle experience!
