There is a lot going on in this house .... or at least a lot that needs to be going on! This pregnancy is flying by and before we know it, baby will be here. This house isn't ready for it. At all. We've had so many projects in the works, but it's going to be a whole chain of events and there are a few things that have to happen to set it all off. And it's been really hard to make those things happen. Here are all of the things we are trying to accomplish:
1.) BACKYARD - We have been wanting to put in grass forever. Well, for the 4 years we've lived in this house. We finally decided to make it happen. I want to have grass by Easter so that Ryder can have a real outdoor egg hunt. Rudy has been building a fence around the patio that will also block off the side yard, so the dogs will only have access to the patio and 'dog run.' I know Pluto will ruin the grass if we let him have the run of the yard. Not to mention both boy dogs will pee all over Ryder's toys. Our house came with a swing set but it takes up half the yard and we decided to get rid of it. It needed work to make it nice again and since we've just let it sit and deteriorate in the sun for 4 years, we decided to let it go. Maybe someday we'll have a bigger yard and will be able to get another one for the kids. We are also going to put in an area of cement for our table, BBQ, maybe a firepit?, etc. Long-term goal is to have a garden too and grow my own food! That won't be for awhile though. We sold the swing set 3 weeks ago. Put it on Craigs List and it went quick. People came and paid for it, but said they couldn't pick it up until the 15th. We figured since they paid for it, that was fine. As of today, it was still sitting in the backyard. Kind of a long story, but after numerous unreturned calls to them, we decided to find a different home for it. I sent a last effort email telling them we needed it gone by today and that they needed to respond if they still wanted it. After no response, we re-posted it on Craigs List. Had a good 10 calls and then what do you know, the original people called and said they'd come today. At 4:30. They showed up at 6:15 (we had dinner plans - so irritating!!) Luckily, Rudy had already spent a couple hours taking it apart so within an hour they had it out. Now we can get the rest of the plans rolling along. We just might have our grass by Easter after all! Maybe.
2.) MASTER BEDROOM - We had intended on finishing up our bedroom before we started working on Ryder's nursery. We painted and put the floors in, and that was the end of it. We have needed a new mattress FOREVER. The one we have been sleeping on I got in 8th grade. So I was 13. And now I am almost 29. Last week, we bit the bullet and bought a new one. We shopped around a little and of course couldn't afford the ones we really wanted (we wanted to pay cash, not add any more debt to our lives. We have been saving for the past year and to get what we really wanted it would take us 4 more years of saving - no thanks!) We went from a Queen size to a California King and the extra space has been sooo nice, but honestly I am not in love with the bed. I will say that I have been waking up with much less pain and feeling more rested, but I think it's too soft for me. We are going to keep looking and will hopefully find something we love and be able to return this one. Mainly what we have left to do in our room is furniture - we still have the ugly asian themed stuff that doesn't go at all and it's not our style. Not even close. We are hoping we can re-paint them, get new handles (the ones on them fall off all the time) and make them look good. I am almost to the point where I'd rather just try and sell them and find different ones. We'll see. I just want something done with them. We have had a huge entertainment center in our room, which was great for extra storage, but was an annoying eye sore at the same time. We finally got it moved into the garage for now and will hopefully get it sold soon. We need to find a new bedding set - I have been looking but can't find anything in the colors I want, so I am still on the hunt. I found a great deal on plain white sheets for the new bed, so that'll have to do for now. We'd really like to get a regular king size mattress instead of the cali king, so I guess we really have to decide on that before we can get anything. We don't have a single thing hanging on the walls in our room. It's time.
3.)NURSERY - As of now this room is full of toys. We have a toddler climber and slide in there that need to be moved outside .... but as I mentioned above, the dogs will pee on it, so until we can make progress on the yard and have the dog run complete, we can't move this out. Ryder's kitchen is also in there and I think that is going to end up in the living room. However, right now our turtle tank is taking up the space for that (it's 65 gallons). We have been wanting to find a new home for these turtles forever. I feel bad because we've had them for 6 years and hate to get rid of them, but we really just don't have the space anymore. We had hoped to build a pond in the backyard for them, but that isn't going to happen. I have a friend who recently moved into a new house that has a pond in the backyard. By chance, she was talking about wanting to get turtles for it (not even knowing that we have turtles) and I told her I have 2 that need a new home and she said they'd take them! I am so excited to know that they will be going to a new home and one where they can be outside and really thrive in a more natural environment. We are waiting on them to get their pond running and ready for them. Then we can really get going on the nursery. Rudy's grandpa is going to build us dressers for the baby and we need to get a crib.
4.)LIVING ROOM - We need a new media cabinet. Our DVD shelf is now over-flowing and we have nowhere else to put stuff. It's also time to frame new pictures and get them on the walls.
So the 2 main things that need to be done in order to get everything else rolling are the getting rid of the swing set (CHECK!) and getting the turtles to their new home, plus selling the tank. Hoping that happens soon, but at least for now we can really focus on the backyard because that is the first priority anyway.
In other news ... Rudy finally got a car about a month ago. He has been without one since the incident in September. Luckily my parents basically have a car lot at their house, so there was always an extra for him to use. But it's nice to have it done and not have it on our minds anymore. He got another Honda Civic, which makes me happy because I sure loved my Civic. It was such a good, reliable car.
It's time for me to get to bed. Tons to do tomorrow!! I wish Rudy could take a month off (paid, of course) so that we could really tackle all these projects and not have to cram as much as we can into his days off every week. I guess we just have to take it one day at a time. I think we have about 100 days, give or take, until baby comes .... plenty of time, right? I do what I can when Rudy is at work, but it's kinda hard when I have a 2 year old running around. And I am getting too pregnant for the heavy lifting I have been doing this week.
I promise to keep updated on all the projects we have going on here .... I've already taken "before" pictures. :)
