Update on Peanut

We took Peanut back to the vet today so they could assess how she is doing. I braced myself for another bill in the hundreds ... assuming they'd want to do more xrays. Of course Peanut was scared out of her mind, shaking like a ... chihuahua. And when they had her stand on the counter, she was standing with her back much more hunched than it has been. We tried putting her on the floor and she pretty much stayed that way but I did let the vet know that while she still has some curve going on, it was looking much better when we were at home and she was relaxed. She still does not have very good control over her back legs though. I am sure the hard floors and her long nails don't help, but she slips around and falls quite a bit. To my surprise, he did not do xrays. He said she seems to be going the right direction. She has a couple more weeks of steroids (which by the way caused her to gain almost a pound in the last week! That's like me gaining 15 pounds in a week) and then after that we may need to give her something like tylenol, or at least have it on hand for when she seems to be in pain. He will call and check on her weekly for awhile (love that we don't have to take her in and pay every week!). These injuries can take months to heal and he said it's possible she'll have to deal with it for the rest of her life. That made me sad and I hope that won't be the case. At least for now though, I am relieved that he didn't seem to think we'd need to go the surgery route. We can let her out of the crate some now, but need to be pretty cautious about it. NO JUMPING. As soon as we got home, she jumped on the couch. Last night she jumped down too, ugh. We only paid $36 for our visit today (apparently the exam fee for a follow-up appt is less)! That was a relief. We would appreciate if you could keep Peanut in your prayers for a full recovery!

It was a busy day for us today. Rudy was off and we did a ton of errands. We finally bought Ryder a little training potty. Even though he has showed interest for awhile, I have resisted. I am not ready for potty training and am completely content with diapers. He already peed in the potty! Or at least he tried ... he wasn't sitting on it quite right, so most of it went on the floor, but at least he tried, right!? I am proud of him! Definitely not in a rush to get this process going and not going to force it on him, but will have it there as an option. He has also decided that it's a fun place to stash his cars and was pretty upset when I put it in the bathroom and closed the door. It's funny because he knows how to open the doors but knows when I don't want him to, so he doesn't and just throws a fit instead. Rudy thought I should just let him play with it since he's "just a baby" but I stayed firm on not letting that one happen. Potties are not to be used as toys, sorry. No wonder Ryder is such a daddy's boy. Rudy lets him get away with ANYTHING. And if he ever scolds him for something, he apologizes immediately. Guess I will always have to be the discipliner (sucky). Not surprised though, as that's pretty much how it works in Rudy's family.

Speaking of Ryder being a daddy's boy. It kind of makes me crazy. Like Ryder really, REALLY prefers Rudy over me. All the time. If Rudy is around he wants nothing to do with me. And if he isn't here, Ryder begs for him. He whines, "Dada at work. Dada, dada." Don't get me wrong, I love that they are so close and Rudy is the most amazing dad, but sometimes it really gets to me. It hurts my feelings and makes me feel like a failure as a mom. I know it is common for children to have a preference for the parent they see the least, but that doesn't make me feel any better. It almost makes me feel unsure about this stay at home mom thing. Would he like me more if he saw me less? As of now he is pretty much never away from me. If I leave the house by myself, it's almost always while he is sleeping. I have considered getting a part time job for awhile. I REALLY miss teaching dance and if an opportunity came along, I know I would jump on it. I think the main reason I haven't really been actively looking for something is because I know it means that there may be times when I have to leave Ryder with someone other than Rudy and I hate that. Like really hate it. Even though I think it would be a good thing for BOTH Ryder and myself, it's still a hard thing to imagine. I also really want to go back to school. I just haven't had the energy to look into scholarships/grants, etc. But it's something I neeed to do.

Anyway, that was a tangent I wasn't planning to go off on ...... it's late and time for bed! Have a great weekend!!!
