Sigh of relief ....

We bought a car!!!  This has been a long time coming.  Rudy's jeep has over 180,000 miles on it and has been breaking down repeatedly ... and on top of that it was not safe for a baby by any means.  He has been borrowing cars from family for the past couple months.  He loves that thing and did not want to get rid of it, but I felt that we didn't have a choice.  We needed the money from it and no matter what, we have to have another car by the time the baby gets here.  He finally realized that we had no choice and when Cash for Clunkers came along we thought we better jump on the opportunity.  We looked, but didn't end up going that route.  We did not want to buy a brand new car that would lose so much value just by driving it off the lot.  We also wanted something with reasonable payments.  I have been wanting a Pontiac G6 for awhile.  We rented one when we went to visit my family over Christmas in 2006 and totally fell in love with it.  Then we rented one again when we drove to LA to catch our plane for our honeymoon.  We have been looking for quite some time, but they are usually out of our price range or are older/have more miles than we wanted.  Back in June my dad found an amazing deal on one and it was my first choice in color too!  We went to look at it, and someone had bought it an hour earlier and they had like 3 other people that wanted it too.  I was soooo bummed, but it turned out to be a good thing because we were in the process of refinancing our house at the time and didn't know that we weren't supposed to open any new lines of credit.

So anyway ..... we went looking at the Auto Mall last Friday mainly because Toyota was having their own "Cash for Clunkers" deal but you could get a used car.  We didn't find anything there we liked in our price range and as we were passing a different dealership we saw a bunch of G6's so we decided to stop.  As we were getting out of the car we saw Rudy's uncle getting out of a car too - turned out he worked there!  We knew he worked at one the places, but didn't know which one.  Sooo .... they showed us a 2008 G6 with only 9000 miles on it!  It was out of our price range .... but his uncle was able to knock a couple thousand dollars off the price and then with trading in Rudy's jeep it actually became a possibility!  They let us take the car home for the night so we could show our parents and drive it a little more.  Rudy was sooooo bummed about having to give up his jeep and they weren't even going to give him very much for it.  We were torn about what to do.  The car was not my ideal color - gold.   I wanted silver or gray.  But it wasn't a deal breaker.  If it had been red, green, blue or black it may have been a deal breaker for me.  We thought about it over the weekend and decided to go for it.  Then Rudy's parents decided to buy his jeep from him for what the dealership was going to give us!  So basically he didn't have to give up the jeep, which made me feel much better about it knowing that he wouldn't be so sad.

After much stress (mostly with choosing an insurance company), the car is ours and currently parked in our garage!  We ended up getting a great interest rate so our payments are even lower than initially thought.  Phew!!!!  Thank you to my dad who helped us through the whole process since we had no idea what we were doing.  I swear this was more stressful than buying our house!  But I am super happy with our purchase and relieved that we don't have to think about it anymore.  The car is beautiful and it still has that new car smell!

We are almost ready for baby to be here.  The nursery is almost done!  The floors haven't gotten finished yet ... Rudy has been working a lot and when he has been off our time and attention has been focused on car shopping.  But it will be finished either tomorrow or Thursday.

I will post pics of the car and the nursery soon!
